They Say Nothing Outperforms Mobil 1? Wrong!

We now have the independent lab test data for Mobil SuperSyn vs. AMSOIL.  Mobil Supersyn is a good quality oil, however based on test data the SuperSyn does not compare to AMSOIL's extended drain interval 25,000 mile/1-year oil or 35,000 mile/1-year oil (0W-30). The test data is as follows for AMSOIL 5W-30 vs. Mobil SuperSyn 5W-30:

NOACK Volatility:  AMSOIL: 4.90%,  SuperSyn: 9.17%

Flash Point: AMSOIL: 446 deg. F., SuperSyn:  435 deg. F.

Fire Point:  AMSOIL: 471 deg. F., SuperSyn:  455 deg. F.

Pour Point: AMSOIL:  - 60 deg. F, SuperSyn: -54 deg. F

4-Ball Wear Test:  AMSOIL 0.374 mm, SuperSyn:  0.667 mm

TBN  (Total Base No.): AMSOIL 12.35, SuperSyn 8.45

The preceding data is for the Mobil1 5W-30. The Mobil-1 0W-30 and 20W-50 performs even worse, as the data below indicates:

The Mobil-1 Supersyn 0W-30 leaves a wear scar 5 times that of the AMSOIL 0W-30 (0.374 for AMSOIL and 1.842 for Mobil-1)!

The 20W-50 Mobil-1 Supersyn leaves a wear scar over 5 times that of the AMSOIL (0.454 mm  for AMSOIL vs. 2.026 mm for Mobil-1)!

Mobil will not recommend or guarantee 25,000 mile/1-year drain intervals like AMSOIL 5W-30, 10W-30 or 10W-40 or 35,000 mile/1-year drain intervals like AMSOIL 0W-30 Severe Service Synthetic does and that is a fact. No-where on the Mobil bottle does it state 25,000 miles/1-year or 35,000 miles/1-year.

"Mobil 1 has run the tag line for their advertising stating "nothing outperforms Mobil 1".  Mobil makes a good oil, but I'm here to tell you that it does not outperform AMSOIL Synthetic Oils. They can come out with all the catchy advertising buzz words to market their oils, but in the final analysis, buzz words don't add one thing to their product's performance.  The only reason AMSOIL has continued to grow and prosper competing with large corporations like Mobil is that AMSOIL products have consistently performed better."

Here's a special excerpt from A.J. Amatuzio, President of AMSOIL, as written in the monthly AMSOIL Action News magazine to all AMSOIL Dealers regarding AMSOIL and Mobil 1:

"As most of you are aware, Mobil 1was introduced after AMSOIL had paved the way for synthetic motor oils back in the '70's.  When it was introduced it cased great concern among many of our Dealers. But in my President's Message at the time, I assured everyone that having Mobil 1 on the market would only help us sell more oil.  Mobil confirmed everything we had been saying about synthetic oils, and our products and claims instantly became more credible.

Since then, we have always been compared to Mobil 1.  When people think of synthetic motor oil, they think of Amsoil and Mobil 1, not the other Johnny-come-lately's that have come on the market more recently.  I have always said that Mobil 1 is a good motor oil, because compared to the run-of-the-mill motor oils on the market, it is. I have also always said that AMSOIL motor oil is better, again, because it is.  Mobil makes their oils to run at normal drain intervals while we make ours for extended drain intervals, and therein lies the difference.  Their oils don't have to be as good as ours, so they are not.

To prove that point, we ran a number of comparative tests on our 5W-30 and Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5W-30.  The test results are published in this Action News, and they confirm what I have been saying all along.  AMSOIL makes a better motor oil.

These test results show significant differences between the oils.  Look at the results of the NOACK Volatility Test.  Which synthetic oil is going to last longer in service? Look at the difference in Total Base Numbers. Again, which oil is going to provide the longest lasting protection?  Look at the Four Ball Wear Test. Which oil will protect against engine wear better? In every category we tested, Amsoil proved superior.  Lower pour point, higher flash and fire points, AMSOIL tested best.

So when I hear claims that nothing outperforms Mobil 1, I have to say 'wrong!'.  They may have good slogans and marketing hype, but when it comes to superior performance, I say nothing beats AMSOIL!"

Here is a description of the test parameters discussed in this  document:

NOACK Volatility: The NOACK Volatility Test determines the evaporative loss of lubricants in high-temperature service.  The more motor oils vaporize, the thicker and heavier they become, contributing to poor circulation, reduced fuel economy, increased oil consumption and excessive wear and emissions. A maximum of 15% evaporation loss is allowable to meet the API SL and ILSAC GF-3 specifications.  AMSOIL 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil lost an extremely low 4.9% of its original weight during high-temperature service, maintaining its superior protective and performance qualities, while Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5W-30 Motor Oil lost 9.17% of its original weight.

Four Ball Wear:  The Four Ball Wear Test  determines the wear protection properties of a lubricant by measuring the wear scars produced by four metal balls in sliding contact under the test parameters.  The smaller the average wear scar, the better the wear protection provided by the lubricant.  AMSOIL 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil completed the Four Ball Wear Test producing a smaller wear scar than the Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5W-30 Motor Oil.

Flash/Fire Point:  The Flash/Fire Point Test determines the lowest temperatures at which application of a flame will cause lubricant vapors to ignite (flash point) and sustain burning for five seconds (fire point). Lubricants with higher flash and fire points exhibit more stable volatility characteristics and are safer to use and transport. AMSOIL 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil has higher flash and fire points than does Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5W-30 Motor Oil.

Pour Point: The Pour Point Test determines the lowest point at which a lubricant flows. The lower a lubricants pour point, the better protection it provides in low-temperature service.  As shown in the graph, AMSOIL 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil has a lower pour point than Mobil 1Supersyn 5W-30 Motor Oil.

Total Base Number:  Total Base Number (TBN) is the measurement of a lubricants reserve alkalinity. The higher a motor oils TBN, the more effective it is in handling contaminants and reducing the corrosive effects of acids for an extended period of time.  AMSOIL 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil has a higher TBN than Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5W-30 Motor Oil.

AMSOIL Proves Superior

"Dave Bigda, owner of Dynamic Auto of Elk Grove Village, Illioois, installs Carroll Superchargers that add about 150 HP to a stock Calloway Corvette engine. Dynamic Auto installs AMSOIL 100% Synthetic 10W-30, ATF and 80W-90 Gear Lube in all of the vehicles they put the Carroll Superchargers into.

The Carroll Supercharger typically turns a 285 HP Corvette engine that normally runs at 4200 RPM into a monster that runs at 3500 RPM and delivers 435 HP. The supercharger makes these high-performance cars 25-45 mph faster, and as Vette Magazine said, the added horsepower "makes other Corvette drivers out there wonder if their new Vettes are pulling a trailer!"

The Carroll Supercharger adds about 6.5 pounds of boost pressure to an engine which creates much greater temperatures and slightly higher rates of oil blow-by (oil blowing by the piston). This makes the choice of a high-quality engine oil a necessity.

Originally, Greg Carroll, the creator of the supercharger, specified Mobil 1 as the only lubricant to use in the engine. He wanted to stress the importance of using synthetic oil in this high-powered dynamo to such an extent that he installed a small metal decal on the top of the engine informing customers to use only Mobil 1.

He hadn't heard of AMSOIL yet. After Dave, sent a sample of AMSOIL to Mr. Carroll, that decal came off. According to Dave, Carroll felt that AMSOIL was superior to Mobil 1 in protecting engines and drivetrain components. In other words, it's the best oil he's seen"

AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants - Made in The U.S.A.

Customer Sold on AMSOIL Quality and Value.

That's what today's savvy consumers want.

According to marketing analysts, the average consumer no longer accepts general sales pitches full of empty promises. The Internet gives consumers instant access to nearly every possible product or service. They look for quality information, conduct price comparisons and then make buying decisions.

The bottom line: more bang for their buck. And when that consumer is raising seven children, top quality products and savings are an even greater priority.

Scott Boring, Oakfield, N.Y., has seven children with his wife Teri. He's looking for quality and savings to keep his 1997 GMC Yukon, with a 5.7 litre V-8 engine that "isn't noted for gas mileage," running down the road carrying his large family as efficiently as possible.

A friend told Boring about AMSOIL products. He promised better gas mileage - an important selling point with today's high gasoline prices - more efficient performance and longer life.

The vehicle had 40,000 miles on it when Boring installed AMSOIL products bumper to bumper.

"I did it all at one time, just to see the difference," Boring said. He installed AMSOIL Series 2000 75W-140 Synthetic Gear Oil, used AMSOIL Engine Flush and then installed AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic High Performance Motor Oil and AMSOIL Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid.

"I especially like the ATF," Boring said. "The truck shifts smoother and the transmission is quiet. All you hear is the tires on the ground. I've tried other synthetics, lots of them. I just never saw any difference. But, with AMSOIL, I saw a difference right away."

The first tankful of gasoline increased his mileage from 15 mpg to 20.5 mpg. "I swear I didn't believe it," he said. "I'm averaging between 19 and 21 mpg all the time.

"This stuff is awesome and I'm letting all my friends know about it."

AMSOIL Customers Appreciate Greater MPG

Although results vary because of a variety of factors, a common denominator among AMSOIL motor oil users is an improvement in fuel economy.

Independent testing reveals that AMSOIL Series 2000 0W-30 motor oil passes the API Energy Conservation Sequence VI test with a rating 38 percent higher than the API minimum specifications.

"The test results show that AMSOIL has the potential to save energy by conserving fuel," said Technical Services Manager Ed Kellerman. "In most cases it can increase mileage, but at the very least you're getting superior engine protection."

Ralph Sites, a police officer in Rustburg, VA, said he put AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil in his 2002 GL 1800 Honda Gold Wing when it had 4,550 miles on the engine.

"I had been getting 30 miles per gallon," Sites said. "I was supposed to be getting 40 to 45 miles per gallon."

His first oil change to AMSOIL improved his mileage to 38 miles per gallon. At 6,500 miles on the engine, after replacing the final drive oil with AMSOIL Series 2000 75W-90 Gear Lube, he improved to 40 miles per gallon.

"I switched to AMSOIL for the long-term gain. The improved gas mileage was just a bonus. AMSOIL is less expensive than Honda's synthetic and I don't have to change it as often. It's a win-win situation."

He bought the bike new in January 2002 and had put 12,000 miles on it in August. He said the improved mileage he's gotten since switching to AMSOIL has saved him $102 just in gasoline.

Jeff Bailey in Fulton, Mo., said his 1996 Lexus GS300 with 81,000 miles on it also gained fuel efficiency when he switched to AMSOIL motor oil.

"The car wants premium gasoline," he said. "I drive about 18,000 miles a year. I ordered your synthetic product and absolutely astounded.

"I was used to getting about 20 mpg overall and having a little low-rev torque."

Since switching to AMSOIL motor oil, Bailey gets 24 mpg and uses regular gasoline.

"The engine feels even more flexible," he said. "I've used AMSOIL now for my wife's anemic Camry 2.2 litre and have calculated that I have saved about $120," he said. "Thanks AMSOIL for an awesome product. You have a customer for life."

Likewise, Lance Okeson of St. Paul, Minn., gained miles per gallon after switching to AMSOIL motor oil in his 1995 Cutlass Supreme.

Okeson made the switch after learning about AMSOIL from a customer of his at a quick lube where he works. His customer was so enthusiastic about AMSOIL, Okeson did some research on the AMSOIL Website and decided to try the products. A trip from the Twin Cities to Fargo, N.D., in a steady 17 mile-per-hour wind, and back showed him an increase from 24 mpg to 30.5 mpg.

"I have never gotten 30 plus mpg with that car," Okeson said. "I have two other vehicles that I switched over to AMSOIL motor oil. One is a 4x4 and the other is an old muscle car. I switched the transmissions and the differentials in those vehicles as well."

ASE Master Technician Sold on AMSOIL

Mark Deschner, Friendswood, Texas, is an ASE Master Technician and Manager of the West Pear Land Tire & Auto Store.

He recently was able to demonstrate the superior quality of AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants when he had to change out a leaking intake manifold on his 1991 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup truck, with more than 183,000 miles on the original engine.

"When my lead technician took the intake manifold off, for the first time ever, he couldn't believe how clean the lifter valley and the top of the cylinder heads were on my truck," Deschner said.

The technician thought Deschner may have changed it before. But Deschner assured him he had never had the intake off before.

"He always made fun of me for only changing the oil once a year and the filter twice a year," Deschner said. "I think that seeing how clean the intake and cylinder heads are in my truck has changed his mind about AMSOIL products. I've always believed in them and my truck runs AMSOIL for all lubricant needs."

He uses AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil, SDF24 Super Duty Oil Filter, TS31 2-Stage Air Filter, GF111 Fuel Filter, 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube, Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid, Synthetic Multi-purpose Grease, P.I. Performance Gas Additive, Rain Clear Windshield Protectant and Bosch windshield wiper blades.

"As you can see, I have pretty much converted the entire truck over to AMSOIL products," Deschner said.

AMSOIL Boosts Bottom Line for Grain Hauler

Burnell Keller of Castroville, Texas hauls a lot of corn. Saving downtime and maintenance costs boost his bottom line.

Since the 1960s, Keller Grain, Inc., at Castroville has bought high quality white and yellow corn from local farmers and trucked it to processing plants across the state of Texas. "These trucks put on about 12,000 miles a month," said Keller, the company's owner.

He was running Exxon XD3-30 motor oil in his Freightliner and changing it every 10,000 miles. He heard AMSOIL products could cut his operating and maintenance costs in half, provide better fuel economy, easier starts and extended oil drains at least three times longer than he was getting.

"We were fixing to extend the drain to 15,000 miles," Keller said. "But a sample of the Exxon motor oil analyzed at 10,000 miles came back saying the oil needed to be changed. I said, let's give AMSOIL a whirl."

After an engine flush, Keller installed AMSOIL 15W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine Oil in his Freightliner, with more than 400,000 miles on the engine.

"We did this procedure three times at a 15,000-mile analysis and filter change only," Keller said. "Each time the oil sample report came back saying the oil was good for continued use."

After the third round of analysis, the oil was changed. Keller plans to continue with 15,000-mile analysis and filter changes and to continue to use the same oil for an interval of 50,000 miles.

"That's about five times longer than before," Keller said. "It's very good. Keller Grain is now convinced that AMSOIL is a superior product and that anybody can save money using AMSOIL products."
