Turbo 4x4 TX Box Stripped

Below are a series of pictures taken whilst I stripped a transfer box. I bought the TX box as a serviceable item and it had apparently done around 90k over a 9 year period. On initial inspection there seemed to be only minimal wear and no specific damage to any of the components other than a number of cracks on the reverse of the pressure plate. In testing the pressure plate operated as normal but I am still unsure as to the cause of the cracks:
